I need a road map. A direction. A special purpose. Some expectations to pursue and avoid. So I am going to subscribe to a horoscope on Facebook. Put order in my life. That’s the ticket!

So, still at home, still behind on the chores that are keeping me from going back out in the RV. My mind refuses to create any urgency to accomplish anything these days. Is that the essence of retirement? Some of my retired FB friends are very active; I doubt that they ever sit at home. Kudos to them. Several come to mind, but one outstanding example is Libbey. A professional musician, a pro golfer. Some are on the other extreme, but the most notable is, I have to admit, Garry P. Note that I said ‘retired’, as some are still working. I won’t embarrass them by names.

Every day I get up with a sense that this is the day. The day that a burst of energy like a sunspot eruption will propel me to accomplish a week’s work list in one day. Then I find myself still at the computer doing necessary stuff. Necessary stuff slowly becomes entangled with discretionary stuff. And then it degrades to simply, stuff.

I want to point Barth in some direction, any direction, and go. But I cannot until necessary home bound tasks are completed. As in the past, ‘cannot’ fades into ‘will not’. Eventually ‘why not’ floats to the top and I am in trouble. I have to obtain a replacement birth certificate and passport. I have to restrain myself to at least complete my donation form to support Obama’s bailout bubble, Bush’s wars and Pelosi’s health plan. The sooner I file my contribution the sooner the bubble will burst and we will all see political the end game.

But I continue “reelin’ in the years, throwing away the time”. You remember the Steely Dan song. It wasn’t about retirement. It should have been. Why do I remember that song so well? It falls in the same category as Steelers Wheel sang in 1972, “.clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am stuck in the middle…”. But you will have to look up that one. And provide your own suitable intrepation.

Then came Facebook. I began a search for people in my past life whose names I could not even remember. Just visual memories. I sublimated it all to my subconscious. Pieces of names started floating to the surface after about a week. I was always a slow thinker. I could always come up with the perfect action or statement a week after I needed it. Time consuming FB searches, looking for names in the  friends-of-friends and friends, viewing photos. Trying different spellings. Oh, how we change!

I have found old roommates, old friends, though I avoid looking for old girlfriends. I know that ‘friend request’ button would not work. Why? I just wanted to see where they had migrated to. And I can’t think of anything better to do.

Where did I put that to-do list?

The ranchers in this area have long been overrun with illegals. Their property lines are on the border. Cut fences, trash, disrupted livestock water, theft. When there is a volume of traffic to leave mounds of trash, start brush/grass fires that cost $ millions to extinguish, overwhelm our hospital budgets, well, put that into perspective yourself. Homeland Security is too preoccupied with airplanes to notice. That can be handled by a bureaucracy. Foot traffic cannot. They constantly tout ‘electronic surveillance’.

But where is the Border Patrol? Too few, too thin, overwhelmed. Electronics are great for texting, not detaining, handcuffing, and disposing of the lawlessness. I see BP checkpoints on major highways, interstates between home and Yuma, Balloon surveillance in the air.. These locations are permanent, well known with signs 2 miles before. Pardon me, but do they believe that the illegals are stupid? Consider the text message “Check point on 90 open, 80 and 191 closed. Balloon up at Sierra Vista.” Electronics cut both ways.

Rancher Krentz

Rancher Krentz was ambushed on his property while checking on an illegal ‘in distress’. See See Michelle Malkin’s post. The Krentz family has run the ranch for over 100 years. Border towns from Juarez westward are being shut down by lawlessness. This is terrorism. On our homeland. Civilization is regressing to frontierism. The Wild West.


Obama and Congress have a plan. Hand out passport forms, help them complete them and stamp them approved upon capture, hand them cash and point North.  Sheriff Joe (Arpaio), Cochise county needs you more than Maricopa county!

So, just sayin’, I guess the next stop is at the house before it gets too hot there. Things to do, people to see.

Is the Stupak pack totally stupid? When no one is looking, about midnight on Christmas Eve, as an example,Obama can and will erase that promised exec order, assuming that he will write it at all after the bill passes. Then the bill takes over the abortion law.

But then why would Stupak and cronies believe that? It is not like Obama has ever reneged or lied about anything!

The Pancho Villa State Park is at Columbus and I stayed there last May. I went to Palomas, there were no problems then. But now the Purple Store is closed. The Purple Store, of all places. Every small border town has a Purple Store which is, not coincidentally, painted purple. It is the most popular destination when Gringos go there. Food, margaritas, mariachis, liquor, Mexican ‘object de jour’, prescription drugs. The thugs are running ‘protection’ rackets, extorting money from the business persons to ‘protect’ them from having the business burned, or the owner killed. The correct term is lawlessness, not drug wars.

They could do that to Algodones soon. I may have squeaked under the wire for my dental work.

Damn, Annie just puked her dinner on the motor home floor. Ate it, turned 180 degrees and regurgitated it. This heat is getting to her old constitution.  I would leave it to dry until morning and it would come up like a pancake, except it is on the exit steps. Gotta move to cooler environs really soon, or this will become a common occurrence. I need to buy liquid Pepto by the quart.

Or maybe she just heard one too many Eh’s. Perhaps Annie is feeling some of what the French feel toward the pushy Americans?

As nice as most of them are,they are beginning to wear on me. It turns out that this casino RV parking is overrun by Canadians! And a few of them are somewhat pushy, will take over a conversation if you let one into it, or not. Think about being surrounded by dozens of Sarah Palin talk-alikes!

The electronic game hall for seniors, and post-seniors, is an active place. And I guess there is nothing wrong with that, in appropriate moderation, when there are few other outlets that are enjoyable at that (and this) age. And they love the trinkets and doo-dads across the border. I do not.

I have yet to find anything I would give any consideration to buy, except perhaps a bribe to get in the front of the returning line. I will be trapped in a 2-3 hour wait tomorrow as my partial is made. Just enough time to get back in to the U.S. and turn around and cross back into Mx. Yeah, I am really looking forward to that wait! Almost as bad as the dentist chair.

I see the second thoughts in the eyes of people in the line as they carry their big turtles, plates, pots, booze. Frequently carrying more bottles of booze than allotted by the U.S. law. And then there was the lady from Holland that was so drunk that she had to be steadied by and shushed by her comrades. One person asked me if I could ‘buy her way in.’ Wrong direction for that, lady. Besides I informed her that inebriation was not cause to prevent her reentry.

The next day she undoubtedly will want to go to Mexico. She will have no memory of being there.
